On March 9 1876, The New-York Evangelist published an article by the Rev. Henry M. Dodd, of Dexter, Jefferson County, New York, on "The Conversion of Zenas Finney". Zenas was Charles Finney's eldest brother. Dodd wrote:

 

In a letter to me, after his brother's death, Mr. Finney says: "I have no doubt my brother was converted in answer to prayer. The faithfulness of God in answering prayer has always been a topic of the greatest interest to me."
