The GOSPEL TRUTH
LETTER OF

CHARLES G. FINNEY

1844

To Hamilton Hill

5 February 1844

[MS in Oberlin College Archives, 7/1/5.]

Boston 5. Feb. 1844.

Dear Br. Hill your letter containing the Draft &c. came to hand this morning & within an hour or two afterwards Miss Eaton came in with $.300 for you.

I have cashed the Draft to Br. Manchester & send you the remaining $.250, in the above certificate of Deposit.

I have as you suggested given her my receipt for the $.300. as received for the O. C. Institute. Miss Rebecca Eaton, for this the name of the Donor will expect to receive your obligation to pay her the interest during her life. You will know how to make that secure. She says that she shall probably receive $.100 more within three or four months & can not now say how soon she may receive the other hundred. Please send on your security for the interest from this date as soon as you receive this. Direct to Miss Rebecca Eaton, Boston Office of the " Friend of Virtue" Chapel Place, as Miss E. is the Editress of that paper. Mary Foster wishes her mother to understand that she expects to return with me. & should her mother wish her to return sooner she wishes her to write to that effect. Her mother is at our house will you take the trouble to inform her of this. Will you request the O. Evangelist to say in their next No. that God willing I shall be at my post at Oberlin by the first of March. This notice was promised to my class that they may know when to return. The interest in religion increases here. Love to your dear family & to all the brethren. C. G. Finney.

Addressed:

Hamilton Hill Esq.
