The GOSPEL TRUTH
LETTER OF

CHARLES G. FINNEY

1842

To ? the Editor of The Oberlin Evangelist

c. April 1842

[Extract published in "Revivals" in The Oberlin Evangelist, 27 April 1842, page 70.]

Finney was in Rochester, N.Y., during March and the first three weeks of April 1842 preaching in the Bethel Free Church in Washington Street. A report on the revival states:

In one of Prof. Finney's letters he says, "I gave as thorough an exposition of the law of God as I was able; and I endeavored more fully and thoroughly to bring out the doctrine of entire sanctification, than ever before in my life. It seemed to carry general conviction to every heart! The intelligence of this place is fast rebuking the mad cry of heresy, and more than all God is rebuking it."
